Two pages, side by side
Open the Duo in landscape and every EPUB lays out as a spread, with margins that follow the screen.
Room for the pictures
Chapter openings and full-page illustrations sit beside the text, and a dark theme can invert line drawings to match.
At the start of this chapter the left page carries the title, and the right page holds the full-width illustration with the first lines of text below it.
Read Aloud across both pages
The sentence being spoken is highlighted, and the spread turns on its own as the voice reads on.
The Read Aloud controls float over the bottom of the screen, across both pages, and the highlighted passage appears on both pages.
Comics the way they were printed
Two-page comic spreads fill the open screen, panel art edge to edge.
The Spread setting in a comic's reading options has three choices. Auto pairs pages when the screen is held sideways and shows one page upright, Never always keeps a single page, and Always pairs pages in any orientation.
PDFs, two pages at a time
Papers and scanned books open as a spread, with your highlights, and inverted colours when you read in the dark.
In this example the right page holds a branching diagram, and one sentence is highlighted.
The audiobook and its chapters
The player sits beside the full chapter list, with skips, speed, the sleep timer and Car Mode a tap away.
justRead.app plays audiobooks you already own, as M4B or MP3 files, from the same library as your EPUBs, PDFs and comics. The time you spend listening counts in your reading statistics.
Your library, wall to wall
Five covers across, with format badges, progress and the tabs down the side.
Each cover carries a badge for its format and a progress bar, and the tabs form a vertical bar on the right edge. EPUBs, comics, PDFs and audiobooks sit side by side in one library.
Home at a glance
Today's reading, your Wrap, the book you're listening to and your daily goal, all on one screen.
The time read so far today sits at the top. Below it, the cards sit in two columns: the monthly Wrap, Continue Listening, the Daily Goal and more.
Statistics in two columns
Your pinned cards spread out, so more of your reading fits on one screen.
The Summary shows the pinned cards in two columns: reading time, daily goal, books finished, when you read, listening time and your streak.
Everything you read, on the open Duo
EPUB books, PDFs, comics and audiobooks share one library, and each one uses the wider screen.
Books as facing pages
Unfold the Duo and a book opens as two pages, with margins that follow the screen.
Comics, edge to edge
Two-page spreads fill the open screen, so every panel runs right to the edge.
PDFs with your highlights
Papers and scanned books open as spreads, and your highlights stay with them.
Listen with chapters in view
The player sits beside the full chapter list, with skips, speed and a sleep timer a tap away.
Read Aloud turns the page
The spoken sentence is highlighted, and the spread turns itself as the voice reads on.
Fonts and layout you control
Tune type, colours and spacing, and set one or two pages separately for portrait and landscape.
Your library, wherever it lives
Keep it in Calibre or any cloud folder and read it on the Duo or any other iPhone.
Your reading, at a glance
A streak from real days, a heatmap of the year and a Recap every week, month and year.
Highlights you can take along
Highlight in six colours, add a note to any of them, and export to PDF, Markdown or Readwise.
iPhone Duo questions
Short answers about reading on an open iPhone Duo.
It changes to the same wide layout that it has on iPad. Books can show two pages side by side, comics show spreads, PDFs open two pages at a time, the audiobook player sits beside its chapter list, and the Library, Home and Statistics screens use more columns. Close the Duo and everything goes back to the one-page iPhone layout.
No. It is the same app from the same App Store page. The wide layout appears whenever the window is wide in both directions, which means an iPad at full size or an open iPhone Duo, and never half of a Duo Split View.
Open a book and go to its Margins & Layout options. Pages Side by Side offers a separate picker for each orientation, and each picker can be set to one or two pages. By default portrait shows one page and landscape shows two. Scroll mode always keeps a single column.
Yes. In a book's Margins & Layout options, set the picker for the orientation you hold to one page. Comics have their own Spread setting, where Never always keeps a single page.
Yes. Comics have a Spread setting with Auto, Never and Always, and Auto sets two pages side by side as soon as the Duo is turned landscape. PDFs open as a two-page spread with your highlights, and the audiobook player shows its full chapter list beside the controls.
You return to a single page at the same position. The reader rebuilds its layout whenever the window changes shape, and it does the same when you unfold the Duo, enter Split View or turn the screen.
Yes. justRead.app is made for iPhone and iPad, and the same wide layouts apply to an iPad at full size. On a closed iPhone Duo and on other iPhones, books show one page at a time, with the same library, statistics and audiobook player.
