## Which should you pick?

- **BookFusion**: you want one library on iOS, Android, the web and E Ink tablets, with Calibre, Kindle, Notion and Obsidian links and family plans, and a subscription is fine.
- **justRead**: you read on iPhone and iPad, want to pay once, and want voices that run on the device, lock-screen widgets and goals. It costs $79.99 once, after a 14-day trial.

## A cloud library and a reader

Both read your own DRM-free books. They differ in where the books live and how you pay.

BookFusion is a cloud library first. You sign in, upload your books, and read them on iOS, Android, the web and E Ink tablets. Plans are subscriptions, from $1.99 a month.

justRead is a reader for iPhone and iPad. It reads a book in place from the folder you chose, syncs through iCloud, and sells a one-time purchase at $79.99 next to its monthly and yearly prices.

Since version 1.44.1, BookFusion's iPhone app also reads unlimited books on the device without an account. So its 10-book free limit applies to the cloud library, not to reading on the phone.

## What each app costs

BookFusion is free to start and then a subscription. justRead has a trial, then a paywall with a one-time option.

### BookFusion: a free plan with a small cloud library

The Free plan holds 10 books in the cloud library, with a 50 MB file cap and 2 new uploads a month once it is full. Since version 1.44.1 the iPhone app also reads unlimited books on the device without an account. [1][2]

### BookFusion: three paid plans

Casual costs $1.99 a month or $18.99 billed yearly, Advanced $4.99 or $47.99, and Power $9.99 or $95.99. They hold 5 GB, 20 GB and 100 GB. The pricing page shows no one-time purchase. [1]

### BookFusion: early adopter pricing

The pricing page marks these as early adopter prices, shows $2.99, $7.99 and $14.99 beside Casual, Advanced and Power, and says to lock in the rate before future increases. [1]

### justRead: free for 14 days, then paid

justRead costs $4.99 a month, $29.99 a year or $79.99 once, after a 14-day trial. Of the two apps, only justRead has a one-time price. [3][4][1]

## How we checked

justRead.app makes justRead. Every justRead cell comes from the app's source code at the 5.6 release.

BookFusion's cells come from its pricing, features and reading pages at bookfusion.com, its 1.44.1 release post, its US App Store listing and Apple's lookup record, all re-read on 28 October 2026.

"Not listed" means the store description does not mention the feature. BookFusion is closed source, so this is a statement about its listing, not a code audit.

We did not install BookFusion or test it on a device. Its lines describe what its pages say, not how the app behaves for you.

Prices change. BookFusion's pricing page labels its current prices early adopter pricing, and justRead's come from its own site.

The reviews come from the US App Store feed and are quoted as written.
